Statements Of Faith

We believe at Hillsview Community Church:

GOD

We believe in one eternal, all-powerful, and loving God who oversees everything. This one God is expressed in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He knows everything, is present everywhere, and remains unchanging in nature.

(Genesis 1:1-2, Ephesians 4:6, Exodus 34:6-7, Psalm 139, John 14:10, 2 Corinthians 13:14)

JESUS CHRIST

We believe that Jesus is the second person of the Trinity, co-equal with God the Father and eternal in nature. He was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, living a sinless human life. Jesus died physically on the cross and rose from the dead after three days. He ascended into Heaven and sits in glory at the right hand of the Father. Jesus will return one day to gather His followers and establish His kingdom on earth.

(John 1:1-18, Matthew 1:18-25, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Ephesians 1:20,

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10, Revelation 11:15)

HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. Sent by the Father and the Son, but equal with the Father and the Son.  The Spirit dwells within believers from the moment of their new birth and never leaves them. He regenerates and baptizes people into Christ's body at conversion, sealing them for eternal life. The Holy Spirit comforts, guides, teaches, and empowers believers to be witnesses of Jesus Christ and to live holy lives.

Acts 2:1-13, John 14:26, John 16:7-11, Romans 8:9, Galatians 5:16, Galatians 5:22-23)

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, free from error in its original form, and the complete written revelation from God. It serves as the perfect guide for faith, teaching, and conduct. God inspired human authors, using their personalities and styles to communicate His message. While Scripture is understandable to everyone, true comprehension comes through the illumination of the Holy Spirit.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Corinthians 14:37, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

 SALVATION

Salvation is a gift provided by God's grace alone, through faith alone, based on Christ's work on the cross. God desires that all people be saved from spiritual death and separation from Him. At conversion, believers are united with Christ through the Holy Spirit, fully justified before God, and become a new creation in Christ. Once saved, believers are forever children of God and cannot lose their salvation.

(Ephesians 1:4-5, Ephesians 2:4-9, Galatians 3:27, Romans 5:1, John 10:28)

THE CHURCH

We believe that all who place their faith in Christ are immediately baptized by the Holy Spirit into the church, which is one universal and spiritual body with Christ as the head. As members of Hillsview Community Church, we represent a local assembly of God's universal church and strive to live according to His principles as outlined in Scripture. The local church is given two holy ordinances to observe: baptism, a public declaration of faith and identification with Christ and His church, and the Lord's Supper, a symbolic memorial of Jesus' sacrificial death to be practiced regularly.

(1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Colossians 1:18, Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:41, 1 Corinthians 11:26)

UNDERSTANDING OF HUMAN NATURE

We believe that the first human, Adam, was created by God, in His image, instantly from the dust of the ground and given life. Humanity was created to have a relationship with God and to honor Him. Human life is immensely valuable in all its forms, including unborn babies, the elderly, those with physical or mental challenges, and every other stage or condition from conception to natural death. We are therefore called to respect and cherish all human life. The fall of humanity through Adam's sin distorted the perfect image of God and introduced sin into the world. It is only through the grace of Christ's sacrifice on the cross that humanity can restore its relationship with God.

(Genesis 2:7, Isaiah 43:7, Psalms 139:13-14, Luke 12:6-7, John 15:12)

HUMAN SEXUALITY

We believe that God intends sexual activity to take place only within the confines of marriage, which is defined as a union between one man and one woman.

(1 Corinthians 7:2, Hebrews 13:4, 1 Corinthians 6:9, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5)
